Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, a local political activist seeking regime change in Uganda has withdrawn his legal case against the government in the East African Court of Justice.
He fled into self-claimed exile to Germany some years back after he was arrested for circulating derogatory statements against the first family.
This decision comes days after the Kisangani rebel group circulated a document pronouncing their existence and desire to remove the current NRM government.
Sources have indicated to this publication that Kakwenza was reportedly alleged to have connections with the Kisangani rebel group.
The sources revealed that Kakwenza’s association with the rebel group led to the withdrawal of his legal proceedings after the team advised him.
“These findings and his alleged involvement could not give his legal team good grounds to argue the case, yet he is involved with rebel activities that threaten the security of the country,” the source said.
Kakwenza, known for his open criticism against the Ugandan government had initially filed the case to challenge alleged human rights violations.
However, the recent allegations have complicated his legal standing, forcing him to rescind the legal pursuit of justice in the court.
Legal experts suggest that the withdrawal could impact his future activism and legal strategies, as the association with a rebel group may affect public perception and support.
