The Joint Security Agencies in Uganda have finished preparations for the Nyege Nyege festival which is taking place from the 15th – 18th September, 2022, at Itanda falls in Itanda village, Nakakulwe parish, Butagaya sub-county in Jinja District.
According to Police, the event will host about 15000 to 20000 revelers from around the world and thus this huge number will require heavy policing.
Police released a statement assuring the public that there are no credible or specific threats directed to the event so far but they are already geared up to counter all the threats and any eventualities targeting the festival.
’’We have directed a significant amount of manpower and logistical resources to the area. Our task teams have profiled the 16-acre venue, the surrounding trading centers, villages and hotspots, to help identify risks and how to counter them. They comprise of personnel from General Duties, UPDF, Counter terrorism, Field Force unit, Traffic, Marine, Canine, Fire Brigade, Medical and Intelligence agencies from ISO and CI. Their heightened presence will continue throughout the entire event and even after,’’ states the Police.
Police has also advised revelers to be extra careful at the event and to immediately report any suspicious activities to security personnel who will be present. The joint security forces also availed the public with tips on how to avoid risk against criminal activity which include avoiding lifts, guarding phones and other personal gadgets jealously, avoid free drinks even from friends, avoid lone movements among others.
In-case of medical emergencies, Police has assured revelers that there will be medical teams from the UPF and UPDF to handle any injuries, stabbings, accidents and ambulances to evacuate those that will require advanced treatment.
