The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania will host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Moses Hassim Magogo, the President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), said on Monday, September 16, 2024, the matches are set to open from 1st February to 28th 2025.

“It is now official. CHAN 2024 will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. 19 nations, including the three (3) hosts, will be competing from 1st February to 28th February 2025 in Nairobi, Kampala, and Dar es Salaam. This is the Kasiki of AFCON 2027. Let us all welcome Africa to Uganda and East Africa,” Magogo said.

Happening once every two years CHAN is a football tournament organised by CAF since 2009 and accommodates only players featuring in the domestic leagues of the respective African countries.

As the three countries are in high gear for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027, this tournament is seen as a perfect forerunner.

On September 27, 2023, the announcement to host AFCON was made by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee held in Cairo, Egypt.

This edition of AFCON will mark the first time the tournament is hosted by three countries and will return to East Africa after a gap of 51 years since it was last held in Ethiopia in 1976.
