Supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) under the leadership of Robert Kyangulayi, aka Bobi Wine, for some time on several occasions have been airing out statements that are demeaning and attacking the kingdom of Buganda, especially when the Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, fell sick and was isolated to Namibia for specialized treatment and rest.

The absence of the Kabaka from major public functions prompted supporters of Kyangulayi to openly attack the kingdom officials including the Katikiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayinga, whom they went on to accuse of incompetence and exploiting the King for his personal gains.

NUP supporters both in Uganda and those abroad demonstrated alleging that the Kabaka had died in Namibia. They accused Katikiro Mayinga and other Kingdom officials including Kabaka’s wife Nabageleka of concealing such information from the public.

After some time, having gotten enough treatment Kabaka returned back home and was much better than how he left. This exposed NUP and its supporters as opportunists who wished nothing good for the Kingdom but rather wanted to use the situation to gain political relevance.

It should be recalled that Bobi Wine’s rift with the Buganda kingdom goes way back in 2017 when he attempted to illegally occupy Kazi- Busabala beach which the Buganda land board evicted him and razed the structures he had illegally constructed.

Since then, Bobi Wine has always been fighting the Kingdom using his supporters both locally and abroad.

However, this leaves many wondering, considering the time Bobi Wine’s supporters spend discussing, fighting, and demeaning the Kingdom of Buganda, whether their target is to cause regime change or total downfall of the Kingdom.

If the time spent on demeaning the Kingdom had been used to put pressure on the government, most likely the current regime under NRM would be no more.

Hopefully, it’s the high time Bobi Wine comes out clearly on his stand about his relationship with Buganda Kingdom otherwise all circumstantial evidence clearly points at him as a silent enemy of the Kingdom and a friend of the ruling government.
