Irate Kalungu Residents Lynch Suspected Machete Wielding Thug

The angry local residents of Bukulula Sub County in Kalungu District have lynched a suspected machete-wielding thug accused of masterminding several robbery attacks.

The incident took place on Monday, August 26, 2024, in Kyambala village, Bukulula Sub County, Kalungu district.
The deceased has not yet been identified, but he is believed to be 25–27 years of age.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, together with his gang, reportedly attacked a barber identified as Eddy Yiga and subsequently robbed him of his property, including hair-cutting machines, a hoofer, and Shs300,000.

“The group also proceeded to rob two mobile money agents in the same village, brutally attacked the two agents and took a large amount of money that was not disclosed, then went to a petrol station, and that is where they were chased down by the locals,” said the eyewitness.

’’When we heard people screaming for help, we just knew it was the same gang of thieves that always terrorize the locals, so when we reached where the cries of help were coming from, we decided to follow the path the machete-wielding thugs had taken, and we found them at a petrol station robbing the pump attendants.

However, they aborted their mission and ran away until we caught one of them, beat him up to death, and burned his corpse,’’ Katwere stated.

Katwere disclosed that what they did to the machete-wielding thug was a warning to the other thugs, so if anyone of them is caught again, he or she will face the same fate.

While the residents’ actions in Bukulula may be understandable given their desperation, mob justice is not the solution; however, Katwere thanked the locals for working together and helping those that were attacked by these machete-wielding thugs.
