The police have called upon all Ugandans to be vigilant about acts of child trafficking.
This was during the commemoration of the International Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, 2024, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Headquarters in Kampala.
Donald Muhwezi, the Community Liaison Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, emphasized that it’s a collective responsibility to eradicate child trafficking in Uganda.
“Human trafficking often begins in our own homes, among people we know—relatives, friends, and neighbors. It’s crucial that we raise awareness and take action to stop it,” Muhwezi noted.
He called upon the public to report suspicious activities that might indicate trafficking, adding that community involvement is vital in safeguarding children.
“Stopping it begins with me, with you and everybody involved,” Muhwezi said.
The celebrations were organized by the Coordination Office for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons (COPTIP) at the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the theme “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking.”
The International Day Against Trafficking in Persons serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against child trafficking and the need for sustained efforts to protect vulnerable members of society, with the police and community organizations committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of children in Uganda.
