Following the 10-day NRM parliamentary caucus retreat held at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, which aimed at sharpening NRM and  independent members of parliament on enhancing household income, President Museveni told the MPs to inherit the National Resistance Army (NRA) spirit and avoid cheap popularity but focus on contributing to the country’s growth.

He made the remarks at the closing session for the retreat held at State Lodge Ngoma on Sunday, June 4, 2023.

“I am hopeful that anybody who inherits the NRA spirit in leadership is capable of resisting cheap popularity, unnecessary debts, and the insult of being turned into prostitutes due to love for money, but also of making a very big contribution to the country,” President Museveni said.

In the president’s efforts to alleviate poverty in the country through preaching the gospel of government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM), Operation Wealth Creation, Emyooga and the Youth Fund, among others, he explained that in order to attain transformation, Ugandans should adopt improved farming methods.

“In order to attain transformation, we have agreed that we should have improved household income through improved methods of agriculture, industry, services, and ICT,” he said on Sunday.

President Museveni further explained the spirit of the NRA, stating that it encouraged the masses to follow the correct ideology that called for service other than cheap popularity to liberate the country.

He therefore revealed to the MPs and other NRM party leaders that their prime role is to implement and supervise government initiatives such as Emyooga, PDM, and Operation Wealth Creation, among others, that elevate household incomes.

“The role of a political leader is to implement and evaluate the pro-people government initiatives like Emyooga, PDM, Operation Wealth Creation, and the Youth Fund that target that objective,” he said.

He tasked the attendants with mobilizing efforts towards the development of the country through the implementation of government initiatives aimed at transforming the nation to a middle-income status.

“You, the young generation, have a valuable opportunity to learn from the best practices of the NRA. We are here to guide you,” he said.

President Museveni promised to guide the young generation as it reflects on the NRA ideology of patriotism for service delivery.
