Impeached Oledo Claims Back UMA Presidency

The High Court in the Uganda Capital Kampala has today morning issued a directive to reinstate Dr. Samuel Oledo as the head of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) effective today 22nd December 2022.

This comes after Dr. Oledo petitioned the Kampala high court to abort the decision of other core association leaders to impeach him as the president of Uganda Medical Association.

“A temporary injunction is issued restraining the respondent, her agents or employees and any other persons claiming under her from implementation of resolutions dated December, 6, 2022 and this court stays whatever was done on December, 18, 2022 until the main cause is disposed of,” Justice Ssekaana ruled.

According to court, Dr. Oledo exercised his rights and halted illegal exercise by his fellow doctors within the Association to cast him away through impeachment.

“The applicant is challenging the decision that resulted in resolutions which have now culminated in his removal from the elected position of President Uganda Medical Association,” Justice Ssekana said.

He added that the applicant petitioned to court to defend his rights and stop illegal exercise of power by some individuals who wanted to stage a ‘Leadership Coup’.

“This court has a duty to investigate and interrogate the allegations made by the applicant and this court cannot be outrun in ensuring that justice is done to a party before it,” he said.

Judge Ssekaana during the ruling, condemned the UMA fraternity for taking early steps to implement the impeachment of Dr. Oledo which encroached on his rights.

Last week some UMA leaders held a general meeting which voted Dr. Oledo out of office as the UMA president for breaching the constitution of the association.

Dr. Oledo was found guilty of engaging in partisan politics in contravention of the UMA constitution for leading a group of intern doctors to publicly endorse President Yoweri Museveni for the 2026 presidential elections at the National Resistance Movement-(NRM) Party Youth Symposium held at the Kololo ceremonial grounds on December 3rd 2022.
