As part of a comprehensive strategy to accelerate digital penetration, the Ministry of ICT is investigating the potential of requiring all government officials to obtain a certificate in ICT and computer usage, as well as tax exemptions on technology equipment such as smartphones.
Dr. Amina Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the ICT Ministry, explained yesterday at a press conference focusing on the nation’s digital transformation roadmap that Uganda’s first digital transformation roadmap, which covers the digital agenda strategy, will be unveiled on August 17, 2023, with the goal of promoting the widespread adoption of ICT solutions within government departments.
She stressed that to achieve this objective, civil servants will be expected to get the International Computer Driving Licence, a globally recognized accreditation that evaluates computer competency.
