The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Chairman Jack Sabiiti has strongly vowed to stop the FDC Katonga faction group from returning to the Najanankumbi group, referring to them as unwanted crops in the garden.

He said their bad intentions for FDC are already known and therefore cannot be allowed to execute them.

Sabiiti’s furious reaction follows comments by FDC Katonga faction National Chairman Wasswa Birigwa while assuring their supporters of the available options even if the Electoral Commission refuses to register their PFF party by 2026.

“The FDC has no interest in the affairs of the Katonga group; they should remain with their confusion and bad intentions. They don’t believe in elections yet they are running around desperate, using our colors similar to ours to register a political party and confuse our members,” Sabiiti stated.

He also threatened to take legal action if the Katonga faction continued using the FDC colors, saying it violates the Political Parties and Organizations Act, 2005, which prohibits political parties from using similar symbols and colors to avoid misinterpretation by voters.

The Electoral Commission has since declined to register the PPF party fronted by the Katonga faction, citing the use of colors and symbols that are similar to those of the FDC.

However, Birigwa trashed Sabiiti’s comments, saying he has no authority to block members from re-joining their party. He claims that Sabiiti is impersonating as the FDC National Chairman, yet the Court has since pronounced itself on the legally recognized party Chairperson.

The FDC President has since made it clear that the membership of the party is open to every citizen of Uganda, including dissenting members from Katonga, but on condition that they pledge their loyalty and respect to decisions from the party leadership.

Amuriat has since endorsed the Budadiri West Member of Parliament and FDC Secretary General Nandala Mafabi to be the party’s presidential flag bearer in the 2026 general elections, saying he has all his blessings.
