The Hive Colab a technology collaboration space based in kamwokya, Kampala hosted its annual swarm summit at the square in industrial area.

The summit brings together technology practitioners, companies, hobbyists and many more with panels discussing a wide range of topics from agriculture to medicine.

The panels this year did not disappoint either with very lively discussions and debates that engaged the attendees. The panelists included Raymond Mujuni, Silver Kayondo, Onyait Odeke, Micheal Niyitegeka among others on panels such as Agri-Tech, Civic Tech among others.

The most engaging were the discussions over the new OTT tax that was introduced this financial year and the mobile money tax. Attendees and panelists agreed in unison that despite the positives of creating new tax avenues, the taxes limit the growth in the mobile technology uptake and penetration.

Another interesting topic was about the Bit coin and crypto currencies with panelists seeking to demystify the new technologies especially in light to the growth in Ponzi schemes that have fleeced Ugandans under the pretense of crypto currency trading.

It was not all work without play as the summit also hosted some of the best djs in the land like Dj RPM, Kampire among others. Drinks and food were abundantly provided to the attendees.

A number of companies were also given space to show case their products and services like Safeboda.

The technology space has grown in Uganda in recent years and Hive Colab, the first technology collaboration space to setup in Uganda being at the forefront of such innovations. The government of Uganda through the ministry of ICT has also embarked on construction of a government funded hub that will support local innovations.
