Has FDC Outlived its Usefulness And is it Time for it to Disintegrate?

A top official in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party ranks called it quits last week due to underlying and unbearable factors in the party. Mr. Buwembo Habib, a NEC member in the Najjanankumbi based party penned his short resignation letter on 12th January to the Secretary General denouncing the party and his role as the secretary for labor and pensions.

In recent times, FDC has faced its fair share of problems from within and β€˜without’ that unfortunately seem to be growing by the day especially amongst its leadership ranging from several endless Netflix-like scandalous sex fests, headline exodus of pivotal leaders, corruption, several on and off courtships with other ailing political parties among other factors.

According to sources, in a closed-door meeting at the party’s headquarters, the NEC (National Executive Committee) held a crucial meeting at the end of last year to find solutions that were to rectify some of the problems that have over the years been synonymous with the party.

Most of the well thought solutions were highlighted in November last year during the launch of their 5-year strategic plan which included β€œattracting back its former members.”

β€œFDC is becoming more combative every other day which is part of its recently released 5-year strategy which includes attracting back its former members,” said Thomas Obita, an FDC party member.

However, FDC has already rescinded its promise just months after launching the 5-year strategic plan. The party shocked its supporters when through their official twitter account, disowned a renowned member something that clearly contradicts their strategy.

Hon. Elijah Okupa, who was an avid supporter and big shot in Β Β FDC was recently disowned and thrown out of the party through a tweet on the party’s official twitter handle.

Some critics wondered whether a political party that badly wants to reunite with its former members would publicly denounce the people it wants to attract.

β€œSo, which is which, how can a party that wants to attract back its members denounce them instead of encouraging them to rejoin the party,” said an FDC supporter.

Similarly, in leaked WhatsApp audios, a furious and disgruntled member is heard complaining that the leadership has totally neglected the party’s doctrine but have concentrated on only enriching themselves. The complainant, only identified as Twinomujuni, is a Rukungiri FDC supporter.

β€œThe leaders have lost appetite for grass root support like we had in the previous years. We have lost support on the grass root level, they only took up those positions only for financial benefits and other things that come along with them. They are selling everything ranging from party cards, t-shirts, caps, they are selling everything,” Twinomujuni said.

Another member is also heard complaining that the top leadership is only confined to Kampala and is alien to the common man in the rural areas adding that even those who were elected in Parliament and other positions rarely go back to their electorates to consolidate the party’s support at the grass root level.

Several other unhappy FDC are very bitter with the leadership accusing them of ignoring the cause of the dislodging the regime but indulging and alluding that some have been in bed with the current government. In the audios, they threaten to leave if those issues aren’t addressed.

The issues within FDC as a political party continue to grow bigger daily and one wonders if the once political giants should just call it quits and dissolve the party.
