Gov’t to Meet Bus Operators Over Park Fees Strike

Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi.

The government will convene a meeting today, August 25, 2023, to address the strike by bus operators over park user fees they have to pay to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

The bus operators went on strike for two days after KCCA closed the bus terminals as it demanded its dues be paid.

Raphael Magyezi, the Minister of Local Government, said that they are going to meet with the bus operators and the officials from KCCA to find a lasting solution to their demands.

“We are going to meet the bus operators, hear their issues, and resolve the matter together with the KCCA, minister of works, minister of trade, and permanent secretaries, “Magyezi said.

The meeting, according to Magyezi, will also seek to harmonise the rules of bus operators with those of KCCA and other governing authorities.

The disgruntled bus operators argue that the 2.4 million shillings in bus terminal fees are excessive, stating that the KCCA does not own the terminals they are charging for.
