Gov’t to Hold 7th High-Level Economic Growth Forum

The Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development (MOFPED), in collaboration with the International Growth Centre (IGC), is set to hold the 7th high level economic growth forum on August 24–25, 2023, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The forum’s chief guest will be President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who will be joined by other notable speakers such as Stefan Dercon, an Oxford University professor of economic policy; Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance; and Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance.

The speakers are expected to discuss global economic developments and economic growth in Uganda, domestic revenue mobilisation, boosting exports and firm productivity, climate change and growth, as well as technology as a key driver of economic growth.

Uganda is working towards reducing borrowing from 2.1 percent in the financial year 2022-2023 to 0.9 percent of the gross domestic product in FY 2023-2024. The forum intends to focus on areas that will help Uganda achieve its goals.

The Forum will run under the theme “Strengthening Uganda’s competitiveness to foster accelerated economic growth.”
