Government is set to give five million shillings each to the families of people who died in the Mbale floods. As of Tuesday, a total of 26 bodies were counted.
Ahamada Washaki, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner said President Museveni has directed the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja to immediately give shillings five million the the affected families.
The money is meant to support the families and facilitate burial arrangements of those who died during the incident.
“We have received information that President Museveni has directed Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabbanja to give Ugx 5m to each of the families that lost their people in floods and bodies have been recovered, to help in burial arrangements,” He said.
RCC Ahamada maintained government commitment to deliver food relief to the affected residents who have been severely affected.
Following the floods that hit Mbale City over the weekend about 5,000 families were displaced and over 80 households were damaged after rivers Namatala, Nabuyonga, Nashibiso and Nambale filled to capacity and burst their banks.
