Gov’t Kick-Starts Third Covid19 Mass Vaccination In West Nile

The government through the Ministry of Health has launched the third mass vaccination against Covid19 pandemic in the West Nile sub-region.

In November, the Ministry conducted the first and second mass vaccination in Teso and Lango sub-regions respectively.

The exercise kicked off today Friday, 10th December 2021, in all Health centers within the region and is expected to run for some seven days.

Dr. Jane Aceng, the Health Minister presided over the launch at Arua City police ground and cautioned Ugandans against ignoring vaccination against the virus.

The Minister noted that currently, Uganda has enough vaccines adding they are targeting some 1.83M people above 18 years in the West Nile sub-region during the mass vaccination.

She tasked the area local leaders including RDCs, RCCs, District Health Officers, and other health workers to ensure every deserving person is vaccinated to pave way for the full reopening of the economy by January 2022.

Dr. Nyeko Filbert, the Director of Arua Regional Referral Hospital, says the current covid19 prevalence in the region stands at  3.3% with Obongi district being the worst.

In a related development, the Arua City Commissioner, Alice Akello says five people have been arrested in connection with the loss of an ambulance attached to Arua regional referral hospital.

Akello is optimistic the lost ambulance shall soon be recovered.
