Gov’t, French Embassy Donate Sports Equipment worth 85 M to 10 Schools

The government, together with the French embassy, have donated sports equipment worth Shs 85 million to 10 schools under the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) leadership.

The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, confirmed the development, noting that the public schools were in dire need of sports equipment.

“KCCA has 107 primary and secondary schools, but only 10 schools have received equipment. However, we have hope to get more equipment to give to other schools in the next batch,” Kabanda said.

She urged the schools not to sell the equipment for money or other personal gains but rather to utilise it to the fullest.

The Minister acknowledged that the items were donated by the French development agency to enhance the talent and growth of the young children.

“The French Embassy has given us Shs 85 million, which has been used to buy kits for footballers, netballers, and basketball jerseys, to mention but a few,” she added.

KCCA has 79 public primary schools and 28 secondary schools that have continued to struggle with substandard and inadequate sports equipment.
