The State Minister for Finance in charge of General Duties, Henry Musasizi, while resubmitting the Income Tax Amendment Bill before the Finance Committee of Parliament, said that the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) hopes to collect Shs. 5 Billion from foreign-owned digital companies. Among the companies that the government plans to tax are Facebook, Twitter, Google, Netflix, and Amazon, all of which offer services in Uganda but do not pay tax.
Musasizi went on to explain that the tax will only apply to non-resident companies’ income and not to their beneficiaries.
