The minister of Education and sports Hon Janet Kataaha Museveni has disclosed that her ministry has completed the inspection of all schools across the country to enhance readiness of institutions of schools ahead of re-opening.

Minister Kataha noted that as education recovers from the effects of the pandemic, the ministry has developed a mitigation strategy as a sector response plan with a number of priorities.

This includes the continuity of learning through distribution of home study materials to households and remote learning through radios and televisions among others.

“I look forward to the re-opening of schools and institutions so that all our learners are able to get back to school and continue with their studies without disruptions and also call for support from all stakeholders to the ministry to enable us to achieve this under taking” she said.

Minister cautioned parents and guardians to put more effort and interest in the parenting of their children to put an end to the scenario of pregnancies among school going girls.

“One really wonders that if our young children cannot be safe in their homes with their parents and guardians, where else can they be safe. She added.

She also said that COVID-19 was a wake-up call for Uganda as a whole but most especially the education sector, prompting a change from physical participation in the event and classes to virtual learning.
