Government Directs on PDM, Emyooga Loan Repayment Period

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed that the grace period for the loans got by the beneficiaries of PDM and Emyooga program to be extended to two years.

The President issued a directive while speaking to leaders from greater Masaka sub region during his monitoring tour of the government Programs in the region.

According to President Museveni, two programs may fail to meet the intention, if the beneficiaries are rushed to pay back the loans.

“The money can hardly leave the intended tangible result if the beneficiaries operate on loan repayment schedules of four months and one-year period for Emyooga and PDM respectively,” he said.

The president warned program implementers against soliciting any registration fee from the beneficiaries, indicating that such changes create unwanted structural deterrence to the beneficiaries.

President Museveni advised local leaders to expand achievements that communities in grater masaka have made, and promised to give support to the region with irrigation system to support farmers increase their productivity.

In the financial year 2021/23, the government started a program of organizing and delivering both public and private sector intervention for wealth creation, generation of employment at parish level, as well as economic planning.

Under PDM, each parish was organized into a cooperative society where Ugx 100 million shillings was given to income generating enterprises and Emyooga which was launched in 2019. The program is aimed at targeting each constituencies that were organized into 19 savings and cooperative societies with each member being funded with Ugx 30 million shillings.
