The government has embarked on distributing medicines in all public hospitals after months of drug stock out in some public health facilities in different parts of the country. Primer Robinah Nabbanja made this revelation during the plenary sitting on 2nd Tuesday 2023.

“The distribution of drugs in health facilities has commenced and our target is that all public hospitals stock essential medicines,” Nabbanja said.

She also added that an inter-ministerial committee has been set up to address the issues of supplies of drugs in the health facilities.

The deputy speaker of parliament Hon Thomas Tayebwa tasked the members of parliament to go back to their respective constituencies and supervise the distribution process.

“Now you are going back to constituencies please cross check in the period of 14 working days and when you return from recess, the minister will give us space and present a statement and see how we shall handle the issue,” he said.

Mr. Ismail George a resident of Kitayunjwa sub-county in Kamuli district in Busoga region thanked the parliament for amplifying their concerns to the government.

Minster Nabbanja urged the citizenry to visit hospitals for medication stating that now the medicine is plenty in health facilities and should not be left to expire.

“Now the ball is in your hands and you already know that everyone has a right to medication. Medics are waiting for you,” she said.

The distribution of drugs has come at a time when there has been a shortage of essential drugs such as ARVs in the nation and is a welcome development.
