Global Vaccine Alliance USD 40M Donation to MOH to Strengthen Health Systems and Infrastructures

Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) has donated over USD 40M to the Ministry of Health to support governments vaccination efforts and to develop health infrastructures.

In a meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng on Sunday 10th April 2022, the GAVI team made the $11M funding announcement to support vaccination campaigns.

The team also announced announced additional funding of $32m to strengthen the country’s health systems and infrastructures.

Under the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunisation (UNEPI), all children below one year should be taken for immunization five times before their first birthday, according to the health ministry immunization guidelines.

The GAVI donations will have the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health be in position to enforce some of these guidelines.

The guidelines also extend to all girls aged 10 years in and out of school, who should be vaccinated against cervical cancer, and that all women of childbearing age (15-49 years) should be vaccinated against Tetanus.

With the availability of operational funds and vaccines, Uganda will kick out COVID-19 completely and other immunizable diseases.

The Government of Uganda is urging eligible citizens to embrace the massive COVID-19 vaccination drive across the country with now over 19,000,000 total doses administered.
