The 3rd Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt Hon Rukia Nakaddama, launched the National Forensics Sciences University (NFSU) Uganda campus today, April 12, 2023, in Jinja District, the first ever of its kind in Africa. Hon. Nakaddama, who represented President Yoweri K. Museveni, thanked the Indian government for deeming it fit to establish a forensics university in Uganda.
“This continues to show the excellent bilateral relations between Uganda and India that have spanned for years,” Hon. Nakaddama stated.
On behalf of the government, she pledged total support for the full establishment of the university and hopes that Uganda benefits from the services of NFSU. She also thanked the president for providing a critical foundation for the establishment of the university.
The Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Vicent Ssempijja, thanked India for being a great ally to the UPDF and security agencies and for always honoring multiple invitations to Uganda.
The Visiting Chief Guest, Dr. Subrajmanyam Jainshankar, Minister for External Affairs in India, said that this move is a huge milestone for both Uganda and India considering that it is the first government university established outside India. He added that NFSU is an institution of national importance and one of the strongest universities dedicated to forensic sciences.
“I am confident that the courses offered by the university, which include Forensic Sciences in behavioral sciences, cyber security, digital forensics, and allied sciences, will be in high demand from students, bringing immense benefits to Uganda and Africa at large,” he said.
To further strengthen the bilateral relations, both the Ugandan and Indian governments signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Satellite Program of Survey and Mappings which they had both agreed on.
In attendance were the Indian high commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Ajay Kumar, the Indian military teaching team, the Vice Chancellor of NFSU, Dr. J.M. Vyas, the deputy CDF, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Jeje Odongo, Brig Gen. Felix Kulayigye, to mention but a few.
NFSU gives us a chance to deal with the challenges that continue to threaten the survival and transformation of the country.
