Fire Guts Kisenyi Market, Destroys Several Properties

Traders are counting huge losses after a fire gutted Kisenyi Market in Kampala City on Monday morning.

Police say the cause of the fire that started around 4 a.m. is yet to be established but confirmed that properties valued in millions of shillings were destroyed during the incident.

By the time the UPDF and Uganda Police Fire Department rushed to put out the fire, property worth millions had perished, according to the police.

The most affected were produce dealers, whose items, including unspecified sacks of maize flour, millet, sorghum, and other food items that had been stored, were burned in today’s incident.

This is the second fire incident to gut Kisenyi Market in a period of less than one year. Earlier last year, a fire razed down part of the Kisenyi market and claimed several lives.
