Family unit best unit to resolve conflicts – RDC Ngabirano

The Deputy RDC Kanungu District Emmy Ngabirano

The Deputy RDC Kanungu District Emmy Ngabirano has underscored the importance of resolving conflicts at family level as the only way to minimize gender based violence in communities.

Mr Ngabirano made the remarks Dec 10th while presiding over the occasion to commemorate 16 days of activism against gender violence at Matanda Refugee Transit Center in Kihihi Sub County in Kanungu District.

He said that most conflicts in the communities start at family level and they escalate to communities and then turn into national issues but if this could be handled at family level, it could easily be managed.

“Family level is the best unit where conflicts can be managed before turning into community conflicts, therefore this should be emphasized to minimize them’ he said.

Ngabirano said that political differences should also not turn into wars but should be managed through dialogue and this will reduce the number of people from running away from their countries.

Matanda Refugee Transit Center has been used by refugees freeing from Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo since 1997 up-to-date. Currently there are over 1000 refugees at Matanda.

He however cautioned the refugees to live within the confines of Uganda’s laws saying that Uganda is a hospitable country that has accommodated refugees from many countries for many years without discrimination so long the follow the law.

“When you come here and follow the country’s laws, you can live a productive life until your country is stable enough to allow you return there”, Ngabirano said.

The 16 days of activism against gender based violence are commemorated every year to reflect its impact on the development of the country.
