πŸ“ŒThe Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has commended President Museveni for signing the Anti-Homosexuality bill into law saying it will safeguard indigenous culture, moral and children. Kazimba in his statement, thanked the President for not surrendering to threats and for protecting Uganda from the path of self-destruction.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Activists want Court to nullify newly signed Anti-Homosexuality law
πŸ“ŒA group of 11 activists has petitioned the Constitutional Court challenging the new Anti-Homosexuality law signed by President Yoweri Museveni. The petitioners include Prof Sylvia Tamale, Fox Odoi Oywelowo (West Budama County MP), Dr Busingye Kabumba, a lecturer of Law at Makerere University, Andrew Mwenda, the proprietor of the Independent News Magazine, Solome Nakaweesi Kimbugwe, a Pan Africanist feminist and activist and Dr Frank Mugisha, coordinator of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) among others. The law imposes capital punishments on same-sex relations including life imprisonment and death sentence. The law castigates lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people and stipulates a 20-year sentence for promoting homosexuality.

πŸ“ŒThe Government has identified a new contractor to construct the 273km Malaba-Kampala Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route. Yapi Merkezi, a Turkish Engineering Company will begin the project in the 2023/2024 financial year.

πŸ“ŒPolice has detained Sulaiman Banga, the local council III chairperson of Lobule sub-county for his alleged involvement in a murder case. Koboko Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Tom Olinga explained that their investigations into the incident strongly link the LC3 chairperson to the outbreak of violence resulting in the deaths of Suleiman Data and Siliman Awadi, both residents of Adugule village, Lurujo Parish, Lobule Sub-county.

πŸ“ŒAt least one person died while four others sustained serious injuries after a Toyota Hiace lost control and overturned as a result of a tyre burst. Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime said that the incident occurred at Akayembe Trading Centre in Kyamuhunga Sub County along Ishaka-Kasese highway. The deceased was a six-year-old while the injured included Crispus Asingirahwe, a 23year old Kampala International University student, Beatrice Itungo, 35, from Katerera, Lawrence Asiimwe, 42, from Bunyaruguru and Innocent Nuwagaba, 35, from Rugazi in Rubirizi District who were taken to Comboni Hospital and Rugazi Hospital in Bushenyi District.

🌍  ATMIS joint force eliminates several Al Shabaab terrorists in retaliatory attack
πŸ“ŒA joint African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) force has killed several Al Shabaab fighters in a retaliatory attack on the terrorists who last week attacked a UPDF forward operating base in Buulo Mareer. In a statement on Monday evening, ATMIS said they successfully pursued the fleeing terrorists who had earlier been involved in the attack and killed scores. They said the joint force also retrieved multiple weapons which had been looted from the forward operating base.
β€œATMIS and Somalia National Army troops have successfully pursued the fleeing Al-Shabaab terrorists involved in the ATMIS forward operating base attack in Buulo Mareer. A substantial number of the terrorists have been eliminated,”  a statement read.
