The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has today March 3, released the results of the 2022 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations and girls outperformed boys. They results were released by UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo and the Board Chairperson Prof Mary Okwakol at a function held at State House Nakasero.
β€œThe females who got three principal passes are 48.6% compared to 40.1% for the males. At two principal passes level and above, the females were 75.1% compared to 67.0% of the males. Although the female candidature is a little lower, the proportions of those who passed is better compared to the boys,” Odongo said.

Okwakol said that fewer girls pursue science combinations with candidates being as low as 6.1% for Mathematics and 15.9% for Biology.

The suspects include Ivan Wephukulu, and Ivan Wekoye alias Kuloba, both boda boda riders, Hassan Makombe, a peasant, and Emmanuel Wakoko, a casual laborer from Nashikhaso village in Bushikori parish, Bungokho sub-county. The suspects on January 30, 2023, in Bunamalio village, Bukiende sub-county in Mbale district, armed with two submachine guns, robbed Kenneth Matanda of Shillings 150,000 and a Tecno Pop 6 smart phone.

πŸ“ŒThe State Minister for Microfinance, Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo has said Ugandan borrowers will be saved from loan sharks if they embrace Emyooga program. He made the remarks on Thursday, while speaking to Emyooga SACCO leaders in Hoima City. Kasolo said many Ugandans have lost property to loan sharks that put in place strict restrictions before one acquires a loan, and that the Government intended to avoid such fraud by introducing Emyooga.
β€œThere are money lenders who will give you shs490,000 if you ask for a loan of shs800,000. The rest will be chopped and even before you take the money you requested for as loan, it is less,” Kasolo said.

πŸ“ŒThe Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) has tasked Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials to explain the Shs4.1 billion released for the first phase in the construction of Philip Omondi Stadium Lugogo. It is alleged that Shs4.1 billion was released but only Shs2 billion was accounted for in the first phase. KCCA officials are expected to be back before the committee next week on Tuesday.

πŸ“ŒPolice in East Kyoga is hunting for around 100 members of a religious cult including the acting Serere District Commercial Officer, Simon Peter Opolot and his wife who reportedly went missing last month. The East Kyoga police spokesperson Oscar Ageca, told the press on Thursday that the missing sect members belong to Christ Disciples Church (CDC) at Obululun Village, Bugondo Sub County. Others come from areas of Kidetok Town Council and Olwa Village in Pingire Town Council- all in Serere District. Investigations indicate that the church leadership headed by Rev. James Enyaku and Augustine Orago purportedly convinced their members to follow God’s plans to go and spread the gospel in Ethiopia, and subsequently vanished. The missing members sold off their property such as cattle, land and other household items to raise the money allegedly to pay Ugx2 Million for processing papers and a bag of maize flour.

πŸ“ŒBuwanda Primary School in Masafu Town Council found in Busia District on Thursday afternoon collapsed due to heavy rain. According to ASP Ibembe Brayan, the officer in charge of Masafu Police Station, one classroom block that comprised of Primary Four and Five collapsed injuring 12 pupils who were in. Some are still in critical condition.

πŸ“Œ The district officials led by the District Chairperson Mukago Dan carried out a sensitization campaign among local council leaders on domestic violence, land wrangles and livestock theft. While presiding over the workshop, Mukago said that many women and children are physically and psychologically injured as a result of the increasing number of domestic violence cases. 🌍 Kenyan firms turn to Tanzania for US dollars
πŸ“Œ Kenya’s commercial banks are running out of US dollars and as a result some Kenyan firms have started sourcing dollars from neighboring countries, especially Tanzania. The shortage of the US currency has made it difficult for manufacturers and general goods importers to meet their obligations. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has directed commercial banks to ration dollars following a shortage of the currency and the race to protect reserves.

🌍 KENYA: Gov’t to Import 4 Million Bags of Maize, tells local farmers their time is up
πŸ“Œ The Government has opened the window for the importation of duty-free food to curb the rising cost of living. President William Ruto said four million bags of maize and other basic food items will arrive in the country starting March 2023. He alerted local maize farmers that the time to sell their produce was up as plans were underway to import more food into the country.
