🇺🇬 Dr. Abed Bwanika exposes Betty Nambooze’s hypocrisy of frustrating others to benefit from Govt yet she is the main beneficiary
📌The Member of Parliament, Kimanya-Kabonera, Dr Abed Bwanika has accused his fellow MP Hon Bakireke Betty Nambooze of frustrating others from benefiting from Government yet she is the main beneficiary. Nambooze, while appearing on a Television talk show with Dr Bwanika on Tuesday said there was no need for National Unity Platform (NUP), a political party to which both MPs subscribe, to negotiate with the Government over their incarcerated supporters who committed various heinous offenses. Bwanika rubbished Nambooze’s submission and exposed her hypocrisy that she was the first to negotiate privately with the State and subsequently benefitted from the money provided to MPs for specialist treatment in the United States.
“Why do they want to benefit from the Government as they leave all other people to suffer in prison? If it is give and take as Nambooze claims, let Nambooze tell us what she offered the Government to be given money for medication in the US beyond what is mandated by Parliament,” Bwanika said.
🇺🇬 Public transport is the answer to road carnage in Uganda- MPs
📌MPs on Parliamentary Forum on Road Safety during a meeting with Civil Society group-Centre for Policy Analysis (CEPA) on Wednesday called for massive investment in public transport in order to reduce road carnage. According to the legislators, all countries that have invested heavily in public road infrastructure have reduced pressure on public roads, thus curbing road accidents.
“We have clear regulations that bar boda bodas from carrying children below 12 years. A boda boda is supposed to carry one passenger, but aren’t we seeing some carrying five passengers?” Hon Sarah Opendi questioned.
🇺🇬 Witchdoctor arrested with skull of man murdered in 2021
📌The Territorial Police of Soroti District has detained a one Okodi Julius, a witch doctor in possession of a human skull belonging to Edou Simon, 52 who was murdered on March 26, 2021. Police Spokesperson East Kyoga, SP Ageca Oscar Gregg said that the witch doctor claims to have advised the killers of Edou who are Ediangu Peter, Emedu Emmanuel, Etapu Kokas, Akwengu Emmanuel and Kongai Jennifer to take his head to him for rituals. Investigations show that Ediangu Peter, the prime suspect who was the deceased’s best man at his wedding, had an affair with the deceased’s wife Kongai Jennifer which could have ignited domestic fights leading to the murder of Edou Simon. He was buried at Akoli village in March 2021.
🇺🇬 MUBS gets first PhD, Masters graduates in Energy Economics and Governance
📌Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has graduated two students with PhDs in Energy Economics and Governance at the 73rd Makerere University graduation ceremony at the main campus. According to Prof Moses Muhwezi, the MUBS deputy principal, in the East African Community region, Uganda is the first country to introduce the course which looks into the economic sense of using the different sources of energy and the issues related to using and the management of the different energy sources. “As a country, this is the first time this course is coming to look at the governance issues, the economic sense, energy utilization and the local revenues from utilizing energy,” Muhwezi said on Thursday.
🇺🇬 Uganda gets new baby gorilla on Valentine’s Day
📌The Communications Manager at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Bashir Hangi official has announced the birth of a healthy female baby Gorilla on Valentine’s Day on February 14, in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by an adult female Tomvi of the Mukiza mountain gorilla pack. Hangi said the birth of the new baby gorilla brings to 19, the number of Gorillas in the Mukiza mountain gorilla pack. “Our field teams have for the last few days been trying to get an image of the baby especially with how tightly guarded she’s been by her protective father and mother,” Hangi posted on his Twitter handle.
🇺🇬 WAKISO: Residents camp at RDC’s office over disputed land
📌On Tuesday, residents from at least seven villages in Namayumba sub county camped at RDC’s Justine Mbabazi’s office for more than six hours over alleged illegal survey and demarcation of their land, which was stopped by Minister Lands Judith Nabakooba. Residents say they are living in fear after suspected land grabbers raided the Busamba land in disregard of government directives and the Court order. The disputed land is located on Busiro Block 53 Plot 15 measuring 1,044.9 acres.

📌The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has at last released the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results of Kisoso Muslim Primary School and Bright Grammar Primary School after withholding them for more than two weeks on suspicion of malpractice. Parents of the said schools have been anxious as their children missed out on Senior One selection exercise with only three days remaining to the beginning of the new school term.

📌Police in Kamuli District on Wednesday rescued a suspected motorcycle thief from an angry mob in Nawanyago sub county. A charged mob rounded up a one Fred Katende allegedly from Bugembe, Iganga with a stolen motorcycle TVS Star UEY 180G. Preliminary investigations reveal that Katende operates with gangs that terrorize residents in Kasambira Town Council.

📌Farmers of Kabuna subcounty in Budaka District have received free training on micro scale irrigation awareness. This comes after the district experienced unpredictable weather changes over the last seasons. 🌍 MOZAMBIQUE: Floods kill at least 10 in Southern Province
📌 The chairperson of the National Disaster Management Institute (INGD), Luisa Meque, said at least 10 people have been killed, 43,426 displaced in southern Mozambique, including the capital Maputo, after heavy rains unleashed floods over the past few days. The Governor of Maputo province, Julio Parruque, urged flood-prone communities to comply with Government evacuation orders or risk being forcibly removed. The chairperson of INGD, Luisa Meque, said “43,426 people were affected by the floods and ten killed”.
🌍 AU to discuss Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea readmission requests
📌African Union Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat said on Friday the bloc will meet to discuss whether to lift the suspension of junta-ruled Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea. The suspension of the three nations from the Pan-African bloc and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was effeted after undergoing military coups since 2020. The diplomats of the three West African countries met on Thursday with Cormoron Foreign Minister Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, whose country will hold the AU’s rotating presidency in a bid to lobby for reinstatement to the 55-member bloc.
🌍 No more Petrol, Diesel cars in 2035 – EU
📌The European Parliament on Wednesday officially approved a law to ban the sale of new gas and diesel cars in the European Union effective 2035. It vows to support efforts to speed up the transition from fossil fuel powered vehicles to electric vehicles. The new legislation is part of the EU broad plan to combat climate change hence carmakers must achieve a 100 percent cut in carbon-dioxide emissions from new cars sold by 2035.
🌍 VATICAN: Pope Francis dismisses speculation he will retire
📌Pope Francis has dismissed speculation that he plans to follow the example of his Predecessor, Benedict XVI, by retiring. The Pope who is 86 and often uses a wheelchair said he believed that the job was for life. He added that historical tradition was important, and stepping down was not on his agenda.
