The success stories recorded by micro-project groups in Kapelebyong district have impressed a team from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
The OPM officials, led by Jacob Daafah, a consultant, had visited at least six youth and women groups in Kapelebyong district on July 8, 2024, who had received financial grants in 2021/2022.
Among the groups visited were: Akunyuko Nyada Ebumakinos Women’s Group—dealing in goat rearing; Okoona Women and Youth Savings and Credit Group—engaged in goat rearing; Ageutu Farmers Field Savings and Credit Group—cattle rearing; and Amunokinos Community Savings and Credit Group—dealing in goat rearing.
Other groups include Alwenya B Youth Savings and Credit Group, which deals in goat rearing; Alakaros Farmers Field Group, engaged in cattle rearing; Akworo Valley Tank in Akore Town Council; and a four-classroom block with an office, together with a five-stance pit latrines at Obalanga Comprehensive Secondary School.
“All these groups are impressive. We are excited by their excellence in poverty eradication attempts,” the excited Daafah expressed.
He said that the success of groups demonstrates the power of working in groups.
Jessica Apio, the Kapelebyong district community development officer, expressed that the success registered in micro projects gives a great impression of the efforts of the mindset change campaign.
According to her, the community development officers at the sub-county level have scored high in service delivery, especially mobilizing groups to embrace poverty eradication at the household level.
Peter Alobai, the clerk to Council who was representing the chief administrative officer for Kapelebyong, thanked the OPM for choosing to toe the line of working with women and youth.
According to him, the tremendous success stories of micro projects in the district signify the need to expand support to other groups.
“We appreciate OPM’s support and seek more of it,” Alobai said.
He confirmed that OPM has injected over Shs240 million into micro projects in Kapelebyong district, with each group receiving a minimum of Shs4.9 million since the 2021–2022 financial year. He also added that Obalanga Compressive Secondary School was supported by Shs249 million.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the OPM, pledging to passionately work harder to improve their household livelihoods.
