EC to Build Regional Offices to Cut Costs, Boost Efficiency

The Electoral Commission (EC) has embarked on the construction of regional customs offices to minimise the cost-related expenses that affect the day-to-day business of the Commission.

The commission spokesperson, Paul Bukenya, said that the Arua Regional Offices will mark the first of the regional offices that the commission plans to construct across the country in a phased manner over the medium term.

He made these remarks on December 15, 2023, at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the first custom-built Regional Office of the Electoral Commission, West Nile Region, at the construction site located on Plot 2, Municipal By-Pass, Arua City.

“This customised regional office will enable us to conduct a range of administrative work, data processing, and training and will also serve as a nomination and results tallying centre,” Bukenya said.

Bukenya stated that the construction of the regional offices will also aim at reducing expenditure, improving effectiveness and efficiency in the provision of electoral services, and helping to ensure cost-effective transportation and storage of election materials.

The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) of the UPDF will carry out the construction work at a cost of Shs. 4.699 billion.
