District Service Chairpersons to Earn Up to Ugx 18m Salary

In the new proposed salary structure for the District and city service personneltheir salary benefits are to be boosted from 1.5m – 3m to 9m – 18m monthly once the proposal is approved. The move is part of the interventions to improve the welfare of local governments officers in a bid to fight corruption.

The permanent secretary for the Ministry of Local government Ben Kumanyana made this revelation during the annual general meeting of the association of District Service Commissions of Uganda (ADSCU). The purpose of the meeting was to address the numerous allegations of corruption against the district service commissions who are accused of “selling jobs” at the local government level.

“Our proposal is that our chairpersons earn between sh 9m and 18m. Although this is not enough considering the responsibilities, it would be better than what is being paid to them currently,” said Kumanyana.

Mr Kumanyana appealed to the public and other players to provide sufficient evidence and information in order to expose and apprehend the wrong doers in the fight against corruption.

We appeal for support other actors, including the media. We appeal for evidence, information and exposure of the wrong doers and we shall be able to solve these issues,” Kumanyana added.
