Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera has urged stakeholders to adopt mediation and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms to expedite the resolution of legal disputes. Speaking at the launch of a Criminal Appeals Session at Arua High Court, Buteera emphasized the importance of embracing ADR for efficient justice delivery.
The session, attended by Judge Geoffery Kiryabwire, Lady Justices Irene Mulyagonja, and Eva Luswata, will address 31 appeals, including cases related to murder, defilement, and robbery. Buteera stressed the need for legal professionals to utilize Court of Appeal Judgments available on the Uganda Legal Information Institute (ULII) for continuous improvement.
Justice Kiryabwire highlighted the significance of ADR in resolving legal disputes, endorsing the adoption of appellate mediation by the Court of Appeal. The Resident Judge of Arua High Court, Justice Acellam Collins, expressed gratitude for the extension of legal services to the Arua High Court Circuit.
Notable attendees included representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Uganda Police Force, advocates, and members of the public. The session aimed to address the backlog of cases, offering an opportunity for reflection and learning from past experiences.
