H.E. Signe Winding Albjerg, the Danish Ambassador to Uganda, has revealed her deep enthusiasm for Ugandans, her diplomatic mission to address pressing global issues as a diplomat, and her commitment to tackling global challenges.
In a captivating interview on local television, Ambassador Albjerg emphasized her role in building relationships and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
“I am not a politician, I am a diplomat, but I find it interesting to build relationships and talk to many different people and actors, and I strongly believe that we have to be the change; we have to be who we are. I have to be a mom and a career diplomat, and that will also help younger women to have kids and pursue their jobs,” Ambassador Albjerg said.
She applauded Uganda’s open-door policy towards refugees, stating that Uganda is very unique in the refugee space, hosting the continent’s largest refugee population and implementing an open-door policy.
The Ambassador also delved into Denmark’s support for refugees and host communities, where she explained their efforts to support refugees and host communities by improving livelihoods and the environment. She highlighted the need to address the root causes of displacement and acknowledged that nobody chooses to be a refugee, but they have no other choice.
“Recognizing the importance of empowering women, we also know that giving the girl child or the female adult the power to make their own choices often leads to her choosing a better life for herself and her children,” she noted.
Ambassador Albjerg expressed her eagerness to travel across Uganda next year, launch specific partnerships, and witness their impact firsthand.
According to Ambassador Albjer, her country’s commitment to the green economy, climate-smart agriculture, and mobilizing the private sector to tackle climate change showcases her passion for the Ugandan people, her diplomatic approach, and Denmark’s commitment to tackling global challenges in collaboration with Uganda.
