CT Police Detonate Two Bombs in Mukono

The Counter Terrorism (CT) Police detonated two bombs planted at Joggo, a trading center in Sonde-Mukono District, on Tuesday evening, April 25th.

According to locals, CT operatives sealed off the area and, after a tip-off, moved the bag that contained the said explosives. They added that the suspicious bomb-like objects were later detonated in an open space without causing any harm.

Joggo is home to the area’s largest boda boda stage and a busy trading center in the district.

When contacted, Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed the explosives’ safe evacuation.

“We are awaiting a report from CT for further details,” he added.

In order to establish who deployed the explosives in the area, officials are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

Uganda has suffered several bomb blasts in the previous years, especially in busy areas.

In October 2021, a 20-year-old waitress was killed after a device left in a shopping bag detonated in a bar in the city. Days later, several people were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a bus near Kampala.

A month later, three attackers on motorbikes blew themselves up near parliament and the city’s police headquarters, killing at least three people on the spot and injuring more than 30 others.
