In November 2021 NUP’s Moses Bigirwa, a former Kamuli Municipality MP contestant, set up a plan to blackmail and extort money from the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
In his attempt, the NUP stalwart threatened to publish concocted defamatory stories against Speaker Among.
But his deal, hit a snag when he was recorded and subsequently nabbed by Police red handed trying to extort hundreds of millions of shillings from the speaker.
His party leader, Bobi Wine, immediately dismissed the claims saying Bigirwa was arrested on other grounds but later admitted the incident claiming that he had been misled by Bigirwa’s wife who gave him wrong information regarding the arrest.
However, the same extortion planners did not relent even after the Bigirwa’s humiliating incident, they later continued to witch-hunt the speaker with bribery claims.
In early August, they used, MP Twaha Kagabo to taint the Speaker Among with bribery when he paraded Ugx40m claiming to be returning a bribe given to him and others by the Speaker from her residence.
Surprisingly when things backfired, MP Kagabo shocked the Rules, Discipline and Privileges Committee when he apologized to have been used by his own NUP party to blackmail the Speaker.
Previously, NUP top officials vehemently accused Speaker Among of causing the removal of MP Zaake from being the Parliamentary Commissioner.
Security sources revealed that, for months now a group of hit men and assassins have been relentlessly trailing some big shots in government including Speaker Among.
The Speaker on Thursday during a plenary sitting said, she had received a report indicating that her vehicles was being trailed by the suspected assassins.
“Now I can officially tell you; I have shared this with the leader of opposition, I have got an assassination report, wanting to assassinate me. Yes, it’s not a hearsay, it is a reality. Up to now, my car is still being followed,” Said the Speaker.
