City Lawyers Want Charges Against Jailed TikToker Dropped

Lawyers representing a local city TikToker, Ibrahim Musana, aka Pressure 24/7, have petitioned the Buganda Road Court, demanding the withdrawal of charges against him.

The lawyers, including Kato Tumusiime and Ivan Kyazze, want Musana to be released, citing a delayed trial.

Musana is accused of posting and sharing information that ridiculed and promoted hostility against Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and President Yoweri Museveni.

Appearing before the presiding judge at Buganda Road Court on October 16, 2024, the lawyers led by Kato Tumusiime asked Ronald Kayizzi, the Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, to consider releasing the suspect.

Kati argued that the case against Pressure 24/7 has been overstayed in court since the beginning of the year (February) without trial.

This was after the prosecution team had informed the court that they were ready to proceed with the hearing, saying they were still processing the forensic report and the CDs with videos that they intended to use.

The case was adjourned until November 19, 2024, for a hearing.

The 27-year-old Musana was arraigned before the court on February 23, 2024, and charged with eight counts of promoting hate speech and spreading malicious information contrary to Section 26a of the Computer Misuse Act 2021.
