The opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced that they will not intervene in the woes of Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who doubles as party vice president, after learning that he has been secretly receiving financial support from General Salim Saleh without declaring or sharing with top party leadership.

While addressing the press at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, deputy spokesperson John Kikonyogo revealed that they were not willing to stand with Lukwago over this matter.

Last week, the public was awash with handwritten memos purportedly authored by General Caleb Akandwanaho, “Salim Saleh,” directed towards the person of Lord Mayor Lukwago, reading how the latter is threatening to withdraw his support for the former.

“If it’s true that Mr. Lukwago has been receiving some finances under cover for his personal political gains as FDC, we condemn it in the strongest terms and shall not support him in clearing his name in front of the electorates of Kampala,” he said.

He added, “This time around, the FDC will not take a benign stance as has been the norm in the past whenever allegations against our party leaders have been circulating in the media.” They also asked Gen. Saleh to come out straight and explain the type of support he has been offering to the Lord Mayor.

He said that if it’s true that Mr. Lukwago has taken the money, then such actions have been tarnishing the party’s reputation domestically and internationally.

He vowed that the FDC will weather the storm and come out strong like it has in the past years since its inception.
