BREAKING NEWS: UK PM Boris Johnson To Resign Today

United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson is set to resign today, Thursday 7th 2022 after mounting pressure from his cabinet ministers demanding him to quit over a string of scandals.

UK cabinet ministers, including the newly promoted ministers Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi and Education Secretary Michelle Donelan, as well as Simon Hart and Brandon Lewis gathered on Thursday morning and demanded the Prime Minister to quit.

According to reports coming in from international media, Boris’ resignation follows a mass resignation of his ministers including former chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid.

Cabinet Ministers who resigned cited a loss of trust in the government, and in Johnson personally.

“Boris Johnson has to quit as Prime Minister after the mass resignation of his ministers, prompted by a string of scandals,” reports state.

Scandals around Johnson’s premiership allegations that his deputy chief whip, Mr. Chris Pincher had drunkenly groped two men in a private members’ club, that the Prime Minister claimed not to have known about till Pincher resigned. Johnson was also criticized for moving to refurbish his official apartment with money from Conservative Party donor.

This has pushed 54 ministers to resign their positions since Tuesday this week.

Nadhim Zahawi, who was brought in to replace Rishi Sunak late on Tuesday night, published a letter Thursday morning telling Johnson he must go.

Using Treasury-headed paper, the Cabinet minister confirmed he was one of several senior Tories who told Johnson the time had come for him to quit.

“I am heartbroken that he hasn’t listened,” Zahawi added. “Prime Minister, you know in your heart what the right thing to do is, and go now.” Nadhim demanded.

Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party and Member of Parliament for Holborn called for an overhaul of the whole government in a twitter post Thursday morning.

“The Conservatives have overseen 12 years of economic stagnation, declining public services and empty promises. We don’t need to change the Tory at the top – we need a proper change of government. We need a fresh start for Britain,” the tweet read.

Keir is the front runner for the Labour party to replace Boris as Prime Minister.

Jonson will remain in office till October in preparation for handover to the new Prime.
