Bobi Wine’s People Power Not A Recognized Political Entity

Leader of the People Power Group, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has written to the Electoral commission requesting for permission to canvass the country as a prospective Presidential candidate in the 2021 general elections.

In his letter, Bobi Wine quotes the constitution and the law as justification for his acts and warns security agencies against interfering in his planned activities. The people power organization under which he intends to base his candidature on is not a legally registered political party and thus cannot be used to officially engage in active politics.

Besides the nature of his political vessel, Bobi wine has yet to sort out the issue of a united opposition coalition as fronted by other political parties. The Forum for Democratic Change only recently announced it’s own coalition that is expected to front Kizza Besigye for Presidency.

The fact that Bobi Wine has put security agencies on alert over his intentions is a pointer to his plans of confrontation nationwide. His recent attempts at political mobilization in the past have all been marred with violence. People Power has quickly become synonymous with violence.

This nationwide tour declaration also indicates a culmination in his worldwide tours that he recently concluded in South Africa. He has been on a globetrotting crusade to garner support from the diaspora and raise funds for his campaign.

The global tours also served as a public relations campaign and gathering of contacts among-st the international media that will help broadcast his impending clashes with security.

His endgame will probably be to portray Uganda as an un-governable state that is incapable of accommodating dissenting voices even though the same state would have afforded him the same platform that he will use to mud-sling it.
