Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform rigged the just-concluded 2021 election

President Museveni has said that Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) rigged the just-concluded 2021 election.

President Museveni said on Sunday evening that Bobi Wine and his intolerant group was involved in ballot stuffing and intimidation of the ruling NRM party supporters.

Museveni clarified on the reverse rhetoric being spread by NUP that it was the NRM that had cheated yet it was the reverse.

“I couldn’t comment because there was a case in court which had been taken there by Hon. Kyagulanyi saying that NRM had cheated them. On the contrary, it was Kyagulanyi’s group that cheated massively. There was massive ballot stuffing here in Kampala and in other parts of the country where we (NRM) had weak organization,” he said.

He told the country that he has reports of intimidation by National Unity Platform supporters towards those supporting the ruling party, citing areas of Buganda and Busoga where everything was documented.

Kyagulanyi had petitioned the Supreme Court that he had evidence to show that there was ballot stuffing, multiple voting and intimidation of their voters but the Electoral Commission failed to reign in. He later withdrew the case for lack of evidence to prove his claims.

President Museveni clarified that indeed, it was Kyagulanyi’s group that was involved in intimidating NRM supporters and orchestrating violence against them.

Citing areas in Wakiso, Mpigi, Kyotera and Kampala where his supporters were intimidated against voting for the NRM and its candidates, the President said there was burning of houses, cars and cutting down of plantations in some areas.

“All this is documented. Despite the massive cheating, NRM won because it is a massive party. It is just like an elephant. All those who were intimidating just injured the ear of the elephant but it is still standing and in charge,” he said.
