Bobi Wine has in a letter on his social media pages accused the Executive Arm of Government of using 10 billion shillings to bribe Members of Parliament to pass the 308 billion supplementary budget to fight Covid-19 pandemic in Uganda.

The matter of awarding the money was solely brought up by Mps during a special sitting last week in which they argued that they too have a role to play in the virus fight. The MPs led by the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga expressly stated they needed the money to make consultations with their constituents and also to fuel ambulances that they own. Government requested anyone with such vehicles to submit them to the district task forces where it would fully facilitate the vehicles. One also wonders how MPs would do consultations when the population is in lock down and all forms of political mobilizations banned for the time being.

Lets no forget that the Parliamentarians had refused to pass the supplementary budget unless they were included and therefore they cannot play mind games no when things have heated up.

During the debate process for the supplementary budget, only hon Gerald Karuhanga submitted a minority report highlighting a few inadequacies in the budget paper, no one else. Where was Bobi Wine during this time and his army of equally hungry people power Mps in the house?

Bobi Wine claims that he ‘reject the notion that this money was meant to enable Members of Parliament carry out their roles in this period’, but this is purely political posturing and playing to the gallery because there was a time for that and he was absent. He should tell us where he was when the framework paper was being discussed.

He also claims that ‘we shall continue struggling day and night to put an end to the decadent and corrupt regime‘, but when will he fight against the corruption exhibited by his colleagues? Refusing to bank the cheque is not enough and aptly provides him with an opportunity to regain relevance at a time when politics had taken a backseat.

The Mps were also concerned that their political opponents were gaining round on them, something they called unfair advantage to them. This is the true concern to them. They see the pandemic as an opportunity to mobilize using the national coffers. Fortunately enough, the electorate has seen through their lies and will not be swayed by political drama.
