Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has appointed Edward Sebuufu, aka Eddie Mutwe, as the head of the ideological development at the opposition party School of Leadership.
Mutwe, who’s the chief bodyguard to Bobi Wine, has significantly over the past few years solidified his position as an influential decision-maker within the party.
Whereas his appointment as the Head of Ideological Docket at NUP’s School was viewed as a reward, it has, however, shocked some key party leaders who questioned Kyagulanyi’s decision to appoint a fellow whose skills will never go beyond crashing lusaniya pork.
It should be noted that before this appointment was formalized by Kyagulanyi, Mutwe had already been on the job lecturing the first cohort.
“Bobi Wine, who presided over the ceremony, commended the work done by the ideology department headed by his bodyguard Eddie Mutwe for shaping the leadership perspectives of the youths,” said Joseph Ssebwato, a trainee who graduated on Monday. He said Mutwe has been there as the head Department of Ideological Development and that his appointment was only formalized by Kyagulanyi.
Mutwe also chairs the curriculum committee that designs the learning modules as well as serves as a senior lecturer of ideology at the same institute.
“Eddie was our head of political ideology, and he taught us various aspects of leadership. Bobi Wine listens to him a lot, and we could see other facilitators consulting him on every topic before coming to teach,” Ssebwato said.
On Monday, November 4th, 2024, while presiding over the graduation of the first cohort of 103 trainees who have been undergoing ideological orientation training at the institute, Kyagulanyi announced Eddy Mutwe’s appointment during a meeting with some top leaders of the school.
Different opinion leaders and fellow opposition leaders have been questioning the intention and credibility of the school and the reading materials used to feed the general public.
Some have linked the school to LGBTQ indoctrination given the fact that the party is allegedly linked to gay rights activists in the US, Europe, and African continents.
However, some of the trainees who have attended classes at the school have commended the head of ideology, Mutwe, praising him for his ideological clarity and intellectual prowess as far as NUP standards are concerned. They are equating him to Prof. Kanyaihamba, former Makerere University Law Don and Justice of the Supreme Court.
The National Unity Platform School of Leadership was unveiled in June 2024 by the party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, and it’s located on the premises of the former party headquarters in Kamwokya, the Kampala suburb.
