Attorney General Urges Police to Observe, Protect Human Rights

The Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, has urged Uganda Police officers to observe human rights while protecting law and order in society.

While delivering a public lecture to officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate on Friday, January 27th, at the CID headquarters in Kibuli, he reminded the officers that arrested individuals have rights to lawyers and rights to see their families.

He also cautioned them that they risk being held personally liable if they work outside the law.

“I call upon all of you to do everything in your power to protect the image of Uganda Police Force and always remember your cardinal role, which is to detect and prevent crime in society,” Kiwanuka emphasized.

He added that officers should not shy away from arresting public officials who misuse car sirens and those involved in corruption.

The officers led by Director of Criminal Investigations, AIGP Tom Magambo Rwabudongo, appreciated the Attorney General for always availing himself whenever he is called upon and even presented him a plaque.
