The commander of the Africa Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma, has urged ATMIS troops to collaborate closely with the Somali Security Forces (SSF) to secure and stabilize the country.
While visiting the frontline troops at Sector 1 in Mogadishu to assess their welfare and combat readiness, Lt. Gen. Kavuma expressed gratitude to the Ugandan troops for their 17 years of service in Somalia and credited the efforts of the troop-contributing nations for the current successes.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration to destabilize Al-Shabaab terrorists and enable the people of Somalia to regain peace and stability.
Lt. Gen. Kavuma recently took over as the new ATMIS Force Commander following his appointment in March 2024 by the Commander in Chief, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Brig. Gen. Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi, the Sector 1 Commander, pledged the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ (UPDF’s) commitment to Somalia’s transition strategy and peacebuilding process.
Lt. Col. Emmanuel Odongo (CO UNGU X), Col. Michael Hyeroba (BG XLI), Col. Topher Magino (BG XL), and Col. Bernard Kashemeza (BG XXXIX) were among the Battle Group (BG) commanders in attendance.
