The Chief Administrative Officer of Mpigi district, Moses Kanyarutokye, and the district engineer, Samuel Kyambadde, have been arrested by police.
They are accused of falsifying accountability and abusing power in regards to shoddy road construction in different sub-counties.
Their arrest was ordered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on Sunday.
The duo is being investigated for allegedly approving false accountability that saw the cost of road work in the district inflated and exaggerated way beyond the work done.
The chairperson has no case to answer; the CAO and district engineer are answerable.
“They took advantage of the chairperson because he was new in the office,” she said.
She further noted that the accountability reports submitted to her office indicated that there was some work done on roads, which was false because of the evidence of shoddy work.
“Where were the district leaders when this mess was happening?”Do you expect the president to come and do your job?” she asked.
This comes after the Prime Minister met with district leaders in Mpigi, Butambala, and Gomba on Sunday, accompanied by other leaders of the ruling party NRM, to discuss the state of roads and other services.
