Anti-Corruption Court Bans Live Coverage of Nandutu’s Case

The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has, on July 27, 2023, prohibited live coverage and publication of photos in the corruption case against State Minister for Karamoja Affairs Agnes Nandutu.

Following an appeal by state Attorney David Bisamunyu seeking the court to limit media coverage in the corruption case against state minister Agnes Nandutu, Justice Jane Kajuga Okuo granted an order regulating media coverage and image release.

“The right to information should be balanced in order to protect their two witnesses,” Okuo stated.

While delivering the ruling, Okuo stated that the witnesses may be intimidated, resulting in a miscarriage of justice, and that the press is only permitted to listen and obtain audio.

Nandutu is scheduled to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of conspiring with her co-accused, Minister for Karamoja Affairs Gorreti Kitutu, Finance State Minister Amos Lugoloobi, and other top government officials to divert iron sheets intended for vulnerable people in the Karamoja sub-region.

Okuo indicated that during the month of June 2022, Nandutu accepted and received 2,000 pre-painted iron sheets at the Office of the Prime Minister’s Stores in Namanve and Kkola Cell Bulwanyi Parish, Mukono area.
