Andrew Mwenda Should Cease Careless Political Rhetoric

While appearing on the Television talk show, NBS Front line on Thursday, veteran journalist and Social media commentator Andrew Mwenda made wild allegations against the head of the Internal Security Organization, Kaka Bagyenda.

The journalist accused him of running torture houses around the country and even made allegations that he has evidence of the torture in videos on his phone which he could play at any time for those doubting.
He also went ahead to accuse the security head of working with thugs and claimed that he was now afraid for his safety after the exposé.

Mwenda is known loud mouth, a kind of quasi-sewer, one that will spill out endless vim for political mileage. Its what he has done for the big part of his career. Many feel he has run his course with his endless personal attacks on political figures in the country. He has now adopted the Tamale Mirundi tactic of making allegations of having evidence on live TV but never making any effort to prove it, which rings of an attempt to extort from the accused.

However, the faded journalist is a known alarmist. He had the opportunity to play and show evidence on video for the whole world to see but didn’t. If he had concrete evidence of such gross abuse, why has he not presented it to the authorities to act on it? Why would he hop back on such damning evidence if it indeed existed?

We should remember that during the Members of Parliament failed visit to alleged safe houses in Uganda ended up at the door steps of Andrew Mwenda’s close relatives. Could he be trying to deflect that embarrassing scenario by hulling wild allegations at others?

Andrew Mwenda also wildly alleged that Ugandans don’t need the support of the United States to fight the Security Head. Tho is quiet an embarrassing revelation, to discover that such characters have invested so much effort in frustrating peace and stability in this country by running to foreign powers and undermining our sovereignty.

Lastly, typical of Mwenda, he took the opportunity to defend his known paymaster, the Rwandan Government by claiming that suspects that were arrested on allegations of collaboration with Rwanda to undermine our security and sovereignty were innocent even though he provides no evidence to support his claim.

This continued bluntant abuse of freedoms of speech and the airwaves is bound to produce quagmire for this country. Such characters like Mwenda need to be asked to account for their actions and restrictions be put in place to regulate such talk shows in the future.
