Moroto Senior Agricultural Officer held over illegal weapons

A senior agricultural  officer in charge Tapac Sub County in Moroto distric has been arrested by the security over illegal possessions of weapons.

Police has identified the suspect as Noah Ewatu who was arrested  during an intelligence led operation that yielded to the recovery of illegal dangerous weapons.

He is being held in custody at Moroto Central police station pending further investigation into the incident.

A source within security revealed that some of the dangerous weapons recovered from Ewatu include military equipment among others.

Ewatu claimed he bought the weapons apparently for personal protection.

His arrest comes hardly two weeks when President Yoweri Museveni conducted on spot security checks within Karamoja region in aid to curtail the current cases of livestock rustling .

During his visit, President Museveni ordered all security and intelligence chiefs in Karamoja region to hype tactics so as to reduce the practice.

In April, 2022, the Joint security forces in Karamoja shot dead Aped Longole, the LC3 vice-chairperson of Napumpum sub-county in Kotido district. He was killed while driving rustled animals from Napak to Kotido.

Security later noted that the deceased had joined rustlers who had gone to rustle animals in Apeitolim sub-county in Napak district. “They managed to raid animals but as they were driving them to Kotido through Abim, they landed in an ambush laid by UPDF and ASTU and shot at them,” A source said.
