The Minister of State for Higher Education Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo has launched a virtual self-paced professional teacher training platform, the U-learn an E-learning platform for teachers at the Institute of Information and Communication Technology on Wednesday 25th January 2023.

The platform is expected to support the Education system in delivering remote and blended learning at zero data cost via MTN network.

According to the minister, the ministry is grateful to Continuum financial group for the U-LEARN platform as a learning management system that enables online continuous professional development of teachers under the education Ministry.

In his remarks, he thanked U-learn platform for enrolling 41 National Teacher Colleges (NTCs), and Primary Teacher Colleges (PCs) bringing the total number of teachers to 1081.

“Education is a fundamental right and utilizing the relevant-suitable technologies to ensure quality education is available to everyone is key in improving livelihood and creating better job opportunities,” Muyingo said.

He further thanked MTN Uganda and Continuum financial group for the zero data rate access to the platform and their support towards enhancing career skills for teachers.

The Commissioner, Teacher Education, Training and development Jonathan Kamwana, appreciated the education Ministry and stakeholders for organizing and enabling the event.

“The world has changed and education must adapt,” Kamwana acknowledged.

He encouraged teachers particularly in rural areas to take advantage of this while noting that this support is crucial for improving livelihoods and creating better job opportunities.

Zero rating will be available to all teachers using MTN internet for connection, regardless of their school or district, and will take effect immediately.

“Everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected world, that is what drives us at MTN,” Bryan Mbasa, senior Manager MTN said.

The platform offers a wide range of educational resources, including interactive lessons, quizzes, and videos to support teachers in delivering remote and blended learning.
