๐บ๐ฌ โAs a young boy, I witnessed a lot of Gender-Based violenceโ โ Deputy Speaker Tayebwa
๐ The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has asked civil society organisations and other related players to take the fight against Gender Based Violence to deep โdown in the villages where women and girls are not empoweredโ to report the cases, adding that, as a young boy, he himself was a victim of Gender-Based violence in his village. Presiding over a stakeholders engagement by the Uganda Parliamentary Women Association (UWOPA), Tayebwa said most of the GBV cases are happening down in the countryside communities.
โMost of the cases that we do hear about are happening down in the villages where women and girls are not empowered to report. As a young boy, I witnessed a lot of gender- based violence in my villageโ, said Tayebwa. He tasked sector players to refocus and find the drivers of gender based violence.
โUpcountry mainly, I think itโs due to low levels of education, poverty, alcohol and primitive beliefs that a man is above a woman even when a woman is feeding a man,โ he said.
He committed that Parliament as an institution would continue deliberate action in supporting UWOPA in their campaign to end violence towards girls and women.
๐บ๐ฌ Brig Ogiki promoted to Maj Gen, now Commander of UPDF second infantry division
๐ President Museveni who is also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces has made new changes in the leadership of the UPDF. In the changes announced on Wednesday, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa was appointed the acting deputy commander of the air force to replace Brig Stephen Kiggundu who has served in the position for only one month since appointment in November. The President appointed Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba who has been Ugandaโs delegate to the South Sudan Peace Monitoring Mechanism as the acting chief of staff land forces in the UPDF. The position has until today been held by Brig Bob Ogiki who has consequently been promoted to the rank of Major General and sent to the UPDF second infantry division in Mbarara as the commander. Maj Gen Ogiki will replace Maj Gen Takirwa who was appointed as the deputy air force commander.
โThe Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the UPDF fraternity congratulate the general officers upon their well-deserved promotions and appointments,โ Col Deo Akiiki, the defence spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
๐บ๐ฌ Supreme Court Judge Ruby Opio Aweri is dead
๐ Court Justice Rubby Aweri Opio who has been admitted in critical condition for a month in the Intensive Care Unit of Mulago National Referral Hospital is dead. A statement from Chief Justice Owiny Dollo revealed that the 69-year-old breathed his last in the wee hours of Wednesday (November 7th) morning.
โThe Hon. the Chief Justice, Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny Dollo, with great grief announces the death of Supreme Court Justice and Chief Inspector of Courts, Hon. Mr. Justice Ruby Opio Aweri that occurred today 7th December, 2022 at Mulago National Referral Hospital.โ Reads part of the state from CJ Owiny Dollo.
One of his sons George Aweri told the press that Justice Opio died of Stroke which affected his brain.
๐บ๐ฌ New Electricity line to save Government Shs9b in Electricity bills
๐The acting UETCL Managing Director, Michael Taremwa Kananura has said the completion of the Agago transmission substation with capacity of 200KV transmission line from Aswa Hydropower Dam to Gulu will save the Government Shs9.3b in monthly energy-deemed bills. Kananura said UETCL is doing all it takes to finish both projects by March next year which will relieve the Government from paying for deemed energy. Deemed energy is unutilized electricity.

๐ According to Eryeza Kabesere, the LCI chairperson of Kabukero East, lightning struck dead seven cows belonging to Margret Kihita in Kabukero village, Karusandara sub-county in Kasese District during a heavy downpour on Sunday evening.
๐บ๐ฌ Janet Museveni Launches Bible College in memory of her parents
๐The first Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni alongside President Yoweri Museveni have launched a bible training college established in honour of her late parents. The newly launched bible college is named Edward and Erina Kataaha Bible College, the first ladyโs parents. The bible college has been operating since last year under the stewardship of Covenant Nations Church of First Daughter Patience Rwabwogo. Speaking at the launch, she thanked her daughter Patience for the initiative which will train up evangelists to spread the word of God in Uganda and abroadโ.
๐บ๐ฌ Police investigates the mysterious deaths of two girls in Koboko
๐According to the LC1 Chairman Abele Cell in South Division in Koboko Municipality, Tuaha Moro, Police is investigating the mysterious death of two girls that have left residents in panic after they discovered their bodies in the kitchen on Monday. The third child was found in the kitchen alive but in critical condition and was rushed to the health centre
โI then reported the matter to the Police because we did not know the cause of death,โ Mr Moro, a neighbour, said.
๐บ๐ฌ Moroto hospital records officer arrested for leaking secrets to media
๐Emmanuel Ochepa, the senior records officer, Moroto Regional Referral hospital has been arrested on allegations of leaking hospital information to the public and the media. Micheal Longole, the regional police spokesperson said that the suspect Ochepa will help police in investigations of the above claims of the anonymous letters threatening hospital officers who allegedly extorted money from job applicants.
โWe have him in our custody and our investigations are linking him with what was going on last month, where a threatening anonymous letter was circulated to the public,โ he said.
๐บ๐ฌ Members of Parliament want Government to stop national Celebrations just like Tanzania
๐ Members of Parliament have urged Government to emulate Tanzania and divert money meant for national celebrations to other crucial Government programs. This came after Tanzanianโs President H.E Samai Suluhu Hassan who recently diverted money equivalent to 1.6 billion Uganda shillings which was meant to celebrate the National Independence Day, to build Government schools for the disabled.

๐ The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has cautioned members of Parliament to stop disrespecting Ministers who work so hard to be present in the Parliamentary sittings. This was after Kiira MP Hon. Ssemujju Nganda relayed before parliament that ministers are rude and always absent during sittings which did not go well with the Deputy Speaker.

He stated that Somalia was suffering from its fifth consecutive failed rainy season with a sixth failed season predicted for next year.
